Ihrer Gesundheit zuliebe deshalb: Bodybuilding ohne Anabolika. (ZüFAM - Zürcher Fachstelle zur Prävention des Alkohol- und Medikamenten-Missbrauchs, 2017)

Lissabon. On 6 and 7 June 2017, the EMCDDA brought together more than forty European and international experts for a meeting on the key indicator Prevalence and patterns of drug use among the general population (GPS). There were a range of presentations from both EU Member States and other countries, projects and institutions. These regular meetings on the indicator change their focus from year to year. This year, particular attention has been given to methodological developments on the indicator, the link between drug use surveys and drug policies, and targeted surveys in drug use whilst serving as a platform for discussion on drug use issues. Also see our GPS indicator page and our Statistical Bulletin website where we present the detailed methodological information about national surveys and where you will find the most recent data available.

Recently the use of the secretions of by the Bufo Alvarius toad (correct name Incilius alvarius) has become popular in various ritual settings. This popularization has meant that its use is becoming common in retreats where ayahuasca is also being consumed. While from a physiological perspective the separate use of each of these preparations is quite safe, combining these two substances is dangerous and can be deadly.

There are at least two cases of deaths documented in the medical literature where the combination of Bufo alvarius with harmalines, compounds present in ayahuasca, was the cause. (The International Center for Ethnobotanical Education, Research & Service (ICEERS), 26.05.2017)

The Manual of Psychedelic Support

The Manual of Psychedelic Support is a comprehensive guide to setting up and running compassionate care services for people having difficult drug experiences at music festivals and similar events. The Manual grew out of the work of its original creators at KosmiCare, the psychedelic care service at the iconic Boom Festival in Portugal. Whilst psychedelic care services have been in operation for decades, and have grown in number and in scope in the past few years, a general guide on how to establish and run them did not exist in the public domain, nor indeed—beyond training manuals for specific organisations—at all. We envisaged a work that would address all aspects of such a project, containing material to guide the care service leader, team leads and care givers, and those fulfilling vital supporting roles (such as psychiatrists and nurses) through the entire gamut of preparation, training, logistics, operations, and the wrap-up of a care service. In the past three months investigators across Europe have intercepted thousands of pills of the Islamic State militant group’s (ISIS) favorite drug, Captagon. Nicknamed “jihad pills” or “the jihadists’ drug,” Captagon is a banned amphetamine-based substance that keeps users awake for long periods of time, dulls pain and creates a sense of euphoria. (Newsweek, 12.05.2017)

Police have only just revealed the discovery last month of fake "Captagon" pills and say they do not know if they were destined for the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Italy's financial police revealed this week they had uncovered 37.5m pills of another drug, tramadol, also used by Islamist fighters.

The cargo was heading for Libya.

Tramadol is a synthetic opioid-like drug used as a painkiller.

Italian police said the consignment had come from India and would have been used for two purposes: to help finance Islamist terrorism and for use by jihadist fighters as a stimulant and to heighten resistance to physical stress. (BBC, 10.05.2017)
