(…) The U.S. was supposed to reduce new HIV cases to 9,300 or fewer by 2025. Though data for that year is not yet available, the most recent federal count, from 2024, was more than quadruple that target: nearly 39,000 new cases.
“It is safe to say we are not on track,” said Harold Phillips, who served as the chief operating officer for the Ending the HIV Epidemic Initiative in Trump’s first term. But rather than the administration sounding the alarm, he added, “it’s been total silence.” (Politico,USA, 12.06.2026)
