PUBLISHING FUTURES - Working together to deliver radical change in academic publishing
Academic research and scholarship play a foundational role in advancing society, driving innovation and solving complex global challenges.
As research becomes more global, academic publishing plays an increasingly vital role in ensuring knowledge reaches and benefits communities worldwide. It is essential for driving economic, technological, and societal development.
However, the current publishing ecosystem is under massive strain. Without urgent action, the challenges facing academic publishing— uncontrolled rising costs, widening inequity, and growing threats to trust and research integrity — will only intensify, creating further inefficiencies and eroding confidence in the system.
Against this backdrop, Cambridge University Press conducted a radical, community-led review of the open research publishing ecosystem.
