IDPC Special Alert: Taking stock: A decade of drug policy - A civil society shadow report

Today, the International Drug Policy Consortium (IDPC) and its 174-NGO membership have launched a shadow report to constructively contribute to high-level discussions on the next decade in drug policy. Taking stock: A decade of drug policyseeks to evaluate the impacts of drug policies implemented across the world over the past 10 years. The report concludes that the targets set in the soon-to-expire 2009 Political Declaration and Plan of Actionhave not been achieved, and in many cases have resulted in counterproductive policies. Crucially, the report questions the pertinence of the so-called "drug-free targets", providing recommendations for alternative goals and metrics that better respond to the UN Charter commitments to health, human rights, development, peace and security.
