IAS – International AIDS-Society. Access saves lives: Opioid overdose treatment

Most opioid overdose deaths occur in the presence of other people who use drugs or by close family members and is a particular risk for people released from prison who have a history of opioid use. Naloxone - a drug that rapidly reverses the effect of opioids, preventing death and recommended by WHO - should be available to peers, over the counter and to take home.
