Kanada. Tablet Injectable Opioid Agonist Therapy (TiOAT) service in Cowichan
Both the pandemic and drug poisoning crises have been devastating for people across BC – particularly people with substance use disorders.
In 2020, 1,716 people died from a toxic drug poisoning, more than any other year recorded in BC. Of these, 263 lived in the Island Health region.
Tablet Injectable Opioid Agonist Therapy, or TiOAT, is a life-saving, medication-assisted treatment for people who have not benefitted from other treatment options.
TiOAT reduces the risk of drug poisoning by providing pharmaceutical-grade medications as an alternative to the toxic drug supply. (Island Health Medical Staff, Kanada, 25.02.2021)
